A consortium comprising Siemens Transportation Systems and Bombardier Transportation has received an order worth €189m (approximately £153.7m) from the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) for the supply of 121 low-floor intermediate double-deck coaches.

The contract, worth €122m (£99m) to Siemens and €67m (£54.5m) to Bombardier, includes options for 40 additional coaches.

113 coaches will be delivered to the SBB and eight to the Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn (SZU) between mid-October 2010 and March 2016.

Carbodys will be manufactured by Siemens in Vienna, Austria while Bombardier’s site in Villeneuve, Switzerland will be responsible for the final assembly and commissioning, which will be carried out with support from Bombardier’s site in Zurich-Oerlikon.
